After four years working with ipads in our schools this is a collection of information that has been helpful.

1. Apple Configurator (download from apple)
(Is never as easy as Apple tells you it will be… Every time there is an up-date it changes the way you deploy and sync ipads)

2. NO APP SITTERS!
(Please, please, please do not just buy itunes cards and start adding apps to your ipads in your school. The goal with technology integration should not be a replace the worksheet, or a babysitter so that you can do small group. We need to choose apps that will have a purpose. Kids can use apps to play at home.)

3. Volume Voucher Program
Start an apple volume voucher account. Buy an app that you know your teachers will use for instruction. iMovie (although a large file) was something that our students and teachers were comfortable using. Download the codes into a folder on the desktop.

4. Deploying ipads- Christie’s Crib Sheet

– Establish one apple account ID for the whole school (example)= schoolapple@gmail.com
– Establish a VPP (Volume Voucher Program)= http://volume.itunes.apple.com
– Get a mac book to manage your devices (and BACK IT UP to an external hard drive)

Using Configurator
– Establish a back-up for ipads
– Create K-2 back-up
– Create a 3-5 back-up
– Possible one-to one back- up
– Create folders on ipad for standardization and organization
(ie. math, reading, social studies, videos, pictures, web clips)
– Create folders on the macbook desktop by cart, and/ gradelevel stand (K-1, 2-3 and 4-5)
– Import the apps to configurator by gradelevel strand, from the folder
– Create a standard of apps for teachers to select from – CREATE AN APPS LIST
– Google docs, chrome, adobe reader, QR code reader, Lexia, Dreambox, Raz kids, etc. make a list of software)

– Anytime changes are made – a new back-up must be created
– Naming the backup include the date (K-1backup 12.16.13)
– Back up all ipads connected to that backup. ( DO ALL IPADS K-1 attached to the back-up)
– Supervise all ipads THEN make the back-up

– Profiles
– Removed and re-installed if changes are made to the profile
– Create one profile per gradelevel strand (K-1, 2-3, 4-5)
